A Clinical / Forensic Evaluation provides a comprehensive evaluation of cognitive, personality, social/ emotional, and behavioral functioning. This type of assessment helps to diagnose and clarify concerns regarding cognitive processing, behavior, personality traits, mood, mental status, and emotional operations.
Often this type of assessment is useful when:
Diagnostic clarification is needed, particularly when a client is not responding to pharmaceutical treatment or other interventions.
Adults are experiencing persistent and repetitive difficulties in their work or home environment.
An evaluation is needed for forensic reasons (i.e. on the advice of your attorney or if a family needs an evaluation for a child custody case).
Parents and teachers are having trouble understanding the source of maladaptive behaviors in a child.
An employer needs to screen potential employees for personality strengths and weaknesses
Doctor Halper & Associates offers this type of assessment for children, adolescents, and adults and tailors recommendations to fit the environment, age, and specific goals of the individual.
What to Expect
This type of evaluation typically takes between four and ten hours and includes a clinical interview lasting approximately one hour. The evaluation itself consists of a series of activities that can include a brief cognitive assessment in addition story telling, drawing, and some paper and pencil tasks.
A follow-up appointment is scheduled three weeks following the evaluation. Here, clients are provided with a comprehensive written report. During this appointment, the results of the tests and recommendations and intervention strategies are explained in a clear and accessible way. If warranted, individuals are provided with additional resources and support groups that they may find helpful. Should further questions arise, additional feedback sessions may be scheduled.
